Washington Wizards (4-22) vs. Golden State Warriors (12-14)
On Friday night’s NBA kick-off game between the Washington Wizards and Golden State Warriors will provide an intriguing contest. With Washington boasting an unflattering 4-22 record, they look to secure their playoff chances against Golden State who boast 12-14. Tip-off time at Chase Center will be 10:00 PM ET; bettors as well as fans alike will eagerly anticipate this important encounter and look to make winning NBA picks during an unpredictable season.
The Washington Wizards’ season has not been impressive. Their offense averages an impressive 117 points per game, powered by an outstanding 48.4% field goal percentage. Unfortunately, however, these high scoring stats haven’t translated to victories; their defense allows opponents to capitalize on scoring opportunities too easily; but their success against the spread on road (8-5) suggests they could still compete as underdogs.
The Golden State Warriors, on the other hand, have averaged 115.6 points per game this season with a focus on three-point shooting that averages 14.8 threes at 37.1% success rate per game. Although their scoring ability has been impressive, there have been challenges to their performance including defense and turnovers; their record against the spread (8-3 in road games) indicates they often outshone expectations when not playing at home.

Kyle Kuzma (SF) vs. Stephen Curry (PG)
Kyle Kuzma has stepped up in a big way for the Wizards this season, putting up by far the best numbers of his career across the board. He’s nearly averaging a double-double with improved scoring, rebounding, efficiency, and playmaking contributions. His versatile inside-outside offensive game has been on full display. However, Kuzma still struggles mightily on the defensive end, especially against elite guards.
Stephen Curry continues to perform at an MVP level this season, averaging 28 points per game on 43% shooting from downtown. His limitless shooting range combined with off-ball movement, effortless handles, and elite shot creation allow Curry to dominate games even when facing tough defenses. He has almost single-handedly kept the Warriors offense afloat. That said, Curry has little help around him right now with injuries and inconsistent play plaguing his supporting cast.
This matchup is an ultimate clash of offense versus defense. Curry’s superstar talent could very well overwhelm Kuzma’s defensive deficiencies in man coverage. But Kuzma does have the size and length to make life difficult on Curry when engaged. On the flip side, Kuzma’s versatile scoring ability will test Curry’s focus on the less glamorous end. Ultimately, Curry’s overall offensive genius and gravity make him a nightmare cover for nearly any defender. If Kuzma can slow him down even a little though, it would go a long way for Washington’s upset hopes.
NBA Odds/Point Spread: TBD, Total Odds: TBD
The betting odds are still to be determined, but considering the teams’ performances and trends, the Warriors might be the favorites. Bettors should monitor the spread and moneyline closely, considering the Wizards’ ability to cover on the road and the Warriors’ overall scoring prowess.
Washington Wizards Betting Trends
The Wizards have been terrible against the spread recently, covering in just 3 of their last 8 games. However, they seem to play better on the road, covering in 8 of their 13 away matchups this season. The over has also hit in 3 of their last 5 contests.
Golden State Warriors Betting Trends
Meanwhile, the Warriors have covered in 4 of their previous 5 outings overall. They are also a sterling 8-3 against the number in their last 11 home games. With two suspect defenses, the over has hit in 3 of Golden State’s past 5 too.
Washington Wizards vs. Golden State Warriors 12/22/23 Betting Picks
In analyzing both teams, the Golden State Warriors seem to have a slight edge, especially considering their scoring ability and home-court advantage. The Wizards’ struggle to convert good offensive stats into wins is a concern. However, their ability to cover the spread on the road should not be overlooked.
For bettors, considering the best sportsbooks, the Warriors might be a safer pick for the win, but the Wizards could cover the spread, making them an attractive option for spread bets. The over/under will be tricky, given both teams’ propensity to score high.
