Hall of Fame Game

The NFL Preseason kicks off on August 3 in Canton, Ohio, with the Hall of Fame Game between the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns. Given that they are playing an hour away from Cleveland, the Browns should consider this a home game. The New York Jets (7-10) and the Cleveland Browns (7-10) will square off at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium on Thursday.

The new Jets quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, will likely get a lot of attention but don’t expect to see the 39-year-old former Packers star much on the field. Rodgers won’t be the only player sitting out the game because it’s likely that not many starters from either club will do so.

At the end of the season, the New York Jets had a 7-10 record. The Jets lost to the Dolphins by a score of 11-6 in their most recent game on a football field. For 149 yards, Joe Flacco completed 18 of his 33 throws. With a quarterback rating of 66.4, he won the game without throwing an interception. Garrett Wilson had 9 catches for 89 yards, an average of 9.9 yards per catch. Zonovan Knight, the best rusher for the Jets, had 12 runs for 22 yards (1.8 yards per carry). For a total of 187 yards, they ran 53 plays.

Averaging 1.9 yards per carry, the New York Jets ran the ball 20 times for 38 yards. The Jets had trouble stopping the run, giving up 162 yards on 32 tries, or 5.1 yards per attempt, on average. New York allowed 20 completions on 31 attempts for 140 yards or 64.5% of the total attempts.

Regarding points scored in the end zone, the New York Jets averaged 17.4 per game. With an offensive rushing average of 99.2 yards, they were ranked 26th in the NFL. The Jets gained a total of 5,409 yards in their previous season. Together, New York gained 866 yards in penalties and 191 first downs. They lost control of the ball 23 times (9 lost fumbles and 14 interceptions combined). New York scored 15 throwing touchdowns and 13 rushing touchdowns.

Zach Wilson is expected to back up Aaron Rodgers and probably get a lot of playing time. It will be interesting to see how the probable Hall of Famer affected Wilson’s development.

Cleveland Browns signed journeyman Joshua Dobbs to face Kellen Mond and drafted Dorian Thompson-Robinson in the fifth round to serve as Deshaun Watson’s backup. Wilson may be the greatest quarterback still on the field if Rodgers and Watson go.

At the conclusion of the season, the Browns had a 7-10 record. The last time the two teams played on a football field, the Steelers defeated the Browns by a score of 28-14. Nick Chubb ran the ball 12 times for Cleveland, averaging 6.4 yards per run for 77 yards.

Amari Cooper was the Browns’ top receiver, hauling in 2 passes for 51 yards (25.5 yards per catch). Deshaun Watson, who completed the game with two touchdowns, finished with 230 yards on 19 of 29 attempts and an 84 quarterback rating. He attempted 7.9 yards on average and threw two interceptions. Cleveland gave up 148 yards on 37 carries, averaging 4.0 yards per carry. With a 44.8% completion rate on 13 of 29 attempts, the Browns’ defense gave up 189 yards. To finish the game with 307 yards, the Browns ran 58 plays for an average of 5.3 yards per play. Cleveland rushed the ball 22 times for 134 yards, averaging 6.4 yards per tote.

The running backs and pass catchers who will see the most action are hard to forecast, but there are a lot of rookies and veterans on deep rosters who have a better chance of playing than most sure bets. Former Jets WR Elijah Moore wants to perform well in front of his old group.

New York’s defense is predicted to once again be among the top in the league after being second in the league in points allowed per game and fourth in yards allowed per game the previous season. Due to its dissatisfaction with its previous defensive play, Cleveland hired Jim Schwartz, a former head coach of the Detroit Lions, to serve as its defensive coordinator.

New York Jets vs Cleveland Browns. The NFL pick for this game is the New York Jets. As the game approaches, pay attention to reports because preseason games mostly depend on who plays and how long. Nevertheless, the Jets’ defense is outstanding in more ways than one, not only because of the on-field players. The defensive back-ups for New York will be prepared to play, especially those who are returning in a familiar formation. Cleveland is retooling its defense with a new coach and plan. We believe that gives the Jets the upper hand. Final score prediction: New York Jets win 20-17.
