Live Betting with the Legendary Computer Group

In Las Vegas there are many live betting legends, but one of the most impressive is the betting syndicate called the Computer Group. Although it is still currently illegal to wager for another without disclosure after $10,000, for years, the Computer Group made untold millions doing just that.

In 1979 Michael Kent quit his job and moved to Las Vegas with a computer program he had developed for tracking and predicting his softball team’s wins, but quickly learned was more valuable for all sports. It was there he met up with one orthopedic surgeon named Dr. Ivan Mindlin who for a 50-50 basis would handle the live betting for the duo.

Dr. Mindlin has been unlucky with live betting in the past, but once he learned of the unique information he possessed, he began to sell the information to others, and opened offices in New York and Las Vegas unbeknownst to Kent. Soon the group had expanded to employees, beards and a network of bettors, who had all never met each other.

The mid 80’s were booming for the group, and Kent, who still didn’t know about the hundreds of others, was told they were making one million dollars a week. In reality, nobody really knew how much the group and the others were making.

News of the group spread like wild fire through Vegas sportsbooks, and one of their bettors, a man by the name of Billy Walters, entered the casino, all were eager to learn what the computer liked. Most times this information was kept a secret, but occasionally Walters would say something loud  enough for a few to hear, and from there the information went across Vegas, and after a few days, tout services and sharps had all heard what the computer had picked. By the Thursday before the a Saturday game, the favorite had moved two full points.

It was at that point, Walters instruct everyone to get to every book in Vegas, and call every bookie they knew to pounce on the underdog. (in Live betting it’s all about the price)

Everything went smoothly until one day, when police forced the company to a halt. It was then that Kent started learning about what Mindlin had really been doing, and of the deception.

To this day most of the group are still live betting with their various fronts, but nothing will ever beat the extreme power that the Computer Group held.
