When “The Hangman” faced former interim champion Dustin Poirier in June 2020, he was on the verge of championship contention after winning seven of his previous eight fights. Since losing to Poirier in a Fight of the Night match, he has been unable to recapture his previous level of performance.

It’s time for the rematch, Hooker said on Submission Radio. “Time for the rematch. It’ll be fantastic too, like, sure. Even this struggle will provide some clarification on several issues. Oh, he is not sh*t, people will say. ‘Oh, whoa, he just wasn’t training for those battles,’ sort of thing. He is in a terrific position when you’re proving people incorrect, and you have a little chip on your shoulder. I work best and shine most when I’m doing that.

Recent defeats suffered by Hooker occurred at the hands of elite opposition, including the recently contested lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. In his most recent fight, at UFC 281, he defeated heel hook expert Claudio Puelles. He believes defeating Turner will demonstrate that he is still a danger at lightweight.

Mateusz Gamrot ended Turner’s five-fight winning run in a defeat by split decision at UFC 285; Hooker believed he had won the contest.

Jalin Turner vs Dan Hooker. One of the largest lightweights on the roster, Turner is 28 years old, and I think his career is just about to peak, whereas Hooker’s is, in my opinion.
