In their second fight (in 2018), he landed more strikes than his opponent, causing just enough damage to win over the judges. He did great striking-wise in that fight, but Pantoja’s been focusing more on the ground game since then.

The 33-year-old Brazilian got to challenge for the title after winning three straight fights. He beat Manal Kape first by unanimous decision. Then he finished Brandon Royal and Alex Perez in the following two bouts, winning the Performance of the Night bonus each time.
