Seahawks fan starts petition for the NFL to review its media policy

A petition was made by a fan of the Seahawks, asking the NFL to review the media policy that it has so that RB Marshawn Lynch won’t have to talk to the media, and now many fans and pay per head services would like to see if the goal of having the league change its policy will actually happen.

On Sunday, posted the petition, and by Wednesday in the afternoon, over 32,000 people signed it.

The fan’s petition read:

“As a 12, I am calling on the NFL to revise its media policy so that all players are given equal and fair rights as a human being without fear of financial intimidation.

“As a fan, I have witnessed enough harassment and undeserving consequences regarding Marshawn Lynch due to his very obvious anxiety interacting with the media. I feel, and many agree, that what you are doing is wrong. You advocate against bullying and domestic violence, but force your players into uncomfortable situations? With a fine attached? There are other players willing to talk to the media and it should be a personal choice.

“Your rules state, ‘Reasonable cooperation with the news media is essential to the continuing popularity of our game and its players and coaches.’ I don’t feel your rules are reasonable as they read currently, considering the only benefit ‘popularity’ wise the NFL gets by bullying Marshawn is money out of his paycheck. This is not OK. And it needs to change because its unnecessary and cruel, as well as hypocritical.

“Enough is enough!”

Earlier during the season, Lynch was handed a $100,000 fine – for this year it was $50,000, and another $50,000 which was withheld from him last year if he was willing to cooperate – for refusing to speak with reporters. Last week, an appeal for the fine was lost by the player.

Ever since he got the $100,000 fine, the RB responded briefly when asked questions by reporters. Pay per head services saw that in recent games, three responses that he gave were “I’m thankful,” “Thanks for asking,” and “Why do y’all keep doing this every week?”

Many NFL fans don’t see much justice at all in the league when it comes to fining the players for not talking. They believe that just like there is freedom of speech, well one should also have the freedom to stay silent.
