PPH Bookie Services: Maryland extends Randy Edsall’s contract

The contract that Randy Edsall made with Maryland was extended for three more years, and PPH bookie services can see that now the fans have a very good reason to be hopeful as the new season approaches.

Edsall helped the Terrapins make it to a record of 14-12 and consecutive bowl games in the last two seasons, so it’s pretty obvious why the fans want to see the coach stick around with the team. His extension will get underway in January of 2017, and could have a value of up to $7.5m, even though he only has a guaranteed $500,000. The coach is also getting $71,000 more in each one of his initial deal’s last two seasons.

After he took over in 2011 for Ralph Freidgen, Edsall was able to go 2-10 and 4-8 during the first two seasons that he spent with the Terrapins, and PPH bookie services saw that he put the team’s football program right in the spotlight.

2014 was the first year that Maryland featured in the Big Ten, and they were able to defeat Penn State as well as Michigan in away games, to the surprise of many fans and experts in the sport. In the conference, Maryland went 4-4, and overall they were 7-6. The Terrapins were able to go 5-1 while playing in road games, and this proved to be the first time that the team clinched so many victories in one season since they did it in 1984.

Edsall reached a 20-30 overall record with the Terrapins, but went 14-12 in the last couple of years.

“Randy has made good strides in our first year in the Big Ten and our program is headed in the right direction,” said Kevin Anderson, the Terrapins’ athletic director. “He has established a culture in which our students have made strong progress academically with outstanding graduation rates. We have made progress and we will look to continue to build upon what we have established.”

In 2014, there were eight players for Maryland with all-conference honors, which is the most that was ever achieved with the coach at the helm. Brad Craddock got the Lou Groza Award for the best kicker in the country since 2002, as well as the team’s very first individual national honor.

The Terrapins’ Athletic Progress Rate – which determines retention as well as eligibility – made it to record highs.

“I’m extremely proud of the work my players and staff have put in to making our program what it is today,” said Edsall.
