Carmelo questioning his choice

Carmelo is looking forward to next year, but the thought has popped into his has about his decision stay. Carmelo has repeatedly said the reason for him staying was for Phil Jackson. He believes that Phil will turn the ship around and they both have agreed to do this together. Carmelo believes there are better days ahead for the New York Knicks. Even though he does second guess his decision to stay with the organization due to the Knicks struggles this year.

“I try to keep myself from thinking like that. But as a human being, those thoughts definitely come into play. You sit down at night and you’re thinking, ‘Did I really make the right decision?’ and just things like that,” Carmelo stated Thursday at the team’s training facility. “Not often did I think about that. There was one point in time this season where it was just cloudy and I didn’t really have any clarity; I was second-guessing what I did and the decision I made. But after that, I was smooth sailing.”

Carmelo signed a five year $124 million contract with the New York Knicks last summer. He endured a rough season with the Knicks this year, as the finished 17-65. That is the worst in the franchise’s history. Carmelo played just 40 games and his season ended in February with knee surgery.

The one silver lining is the Knicks projected cap space for 2015. They are projected to $25 million and a top 5 draft pick in this year’s draft. Carmelo is optimistic that Phil will prevail with the revamping of the Knicks roster, but he also acknowledged this summer we time for Phi Jackson to “step up to the plate.”

“That was one of the reasons I decided to come back. For me to have faith in [Jackson] and believe in his capabilities,” Carmelo stated.”[This is] kind of like a clean slate for us and for him. Now we really get a chance and he really gets a chance to put a stamp on what we want this organization to be about, what he wants this team to be about, what players he wants in here.”

Carmelo later said, “This next season for me and for the organization and for Phil, this is where we earn our money.”
