PAT rules will Change for the 2015 NFL Regular Season

NFL teams, - PAT rules will Change for the 2015 Regular Season Last week the owners of the 32 NFL teams sat down to discuss possible changes in the upcoming 2015 NFL regular season. There were many things discussed, but possibly the most important was that 30 of the 32 NFL teams wanted to change the point scored after a touchdown, or PAT.

Last year the majority of the teams agreed that the 1 point scored after a touchdown was almost an automatic given, with a 99.6% accuracy. Makes you wonder what happened with those other .4%.

We get it; it’s too easy to get the extra point, so why bother with it.

Apparently many of the owners had a solution, but the solutions were so varied that not one stuck out as the fix, and certainly not one that 24 of the owners could agree on for a rule change.

The owners now have until May to find a compromise, as the league refuses to allow another season with 99.6% accuracy.

Their choices are now:

• Teams will have the choice of whether to attempt one or two points after a touchdown, each from a  different distance.

• The offensive team may chose to kick for one point and the line of scrimmage will be changed from the    2 yard line to the 15 yard line, resulting in a 32 or 33 yard attempt.

• The offensive team may chose to attempt two points and the line of scrimmage will be either the 1½ or    2 yard line.

• The defensive team could score two points by with a block of the PAT and return it downfield to the end  zone, or by intercepting the two point attempt and running it back, or recovering a fumble on the two point play and returning it all the way.

The choices may have been narrowed, but we all know how hard it is to get that many rich owners to agree on anything. Time will tell.

Another thing discussed for the upcoming 2015 NFL regular season is that the league wants no NFL games will be blacked out in 2015, which viewers may not have even noticed in the past few years with no blackouts in 2014, and only 2 in 2013.
