Alex Rodriguez will be tested a bit more frequently

Alex Rodriguez will be tested a bit more frequently. This obviously is the result of his 162-game suspension for using drug performance-enhancing drugs. This is according to new baseball commissioner Rob Manfred.

Manfred stated, “Let me be clear about this; he’ll be tested exactly like every other player who has violated the program. The program requires more frequent testing for players who are coming back after a suspension.”Manfred, spoke at Charlotte Sports Park, where the Yankees were playing the Tampa Bay Rays.
Major League Baseball increases it’s testing to players who have tested positive and have been suspended due to the league’s drug policy.

Besides Alex Rodriguez, Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris “Crash” Davis will also be submitted to random drug testing for a 12 month period following the violation. According to the (JDA) Joint Drug Agreement, which was introduced into baseball on December 2011, and which indicates players disciplined are subject to six unannounced urine tests and three unannounced blood test for a 12-month period. They are subject to random testing at the beginning of spring training, as well as random testing throughout the season. The number of random urine testing is 350 among all players in the offseason, and 140 random blood tests. This means that only a fraction of the 1,200 players within baseballs 40 man roster will be tested.

A-Rod along with several other players suspended in the Biogenesis investigation never really tested positive. They were deemed positive through a “nonanalytic positive.” This means that it was determined without a positive drug test. Manfred admitted is troubling that none of the players suspended in the Biogenesis Investigation actually tested positive.

“I think our testing is state of the art. It’s as good as it can be,” Manfred said. “But I think you need to stay really vigilant on both fronts because this is a science — kind of a black science, but a science nonetheless — and it evolves. We have to make sure that we’re evolving with it.”

Following his election to succeed Bud Selig, Manfred has participated in a tour to become better acquainted with the players.
“I think it’s better to meet as many players as you can under these circumstances,” Manfred said. “You don’t want your first contact with them to be when something’s wrong.”

Manfred has already met three times with A-Rod, and A-Rod has said that Manfred has been “phenomenal” to him. “I think I’ve been pretty public about this,” Manfred said “Alex served a very long suspension. Once he served that time, baseball ought to welcome him back — and I think we’ve done a good job. The institution as a whole; teams, central baseball, everybody. He’s played well. Good for him.”

Bookmaking Solutions have the Yankees odds set at 30-1. Sigh, a far cry from yesteryear.
