NFL- Resolution for the Lockout

Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees, sued the NFL Association for being a monopoly, leading to a four and a half month lockout in the League as the players and owners tried to reach an amicable agreement.

The resolution of the lockout is a 10-year competitve bargaining agreement. What was the longest work stoppage in the history of the NFL is now over, as no regular season games were compromised.

The issue leading to the lockout was how to handle the $9 million surplus of the League.  The agreement will give the owners 52% and the NFL players 48%. In addition, the players wanted better medical benefits and to limit the season to 16 games rather than the contemplated 18-game schedule.

As well, other disputes not yet finished are the recertification of the NFLPA as a union and the arrangement for the two lawsuits against the NFL.  The players Brady, Manning and Brees filed the first lawsuit saying the NFL is a monopoly. In addition, the other lawsuit was filed by the NFLPA, which accuses the NFL of secretly negotiating a new T.V contract for 4 billion dollars.

In the end, the Chicago Bears and St. Louis Rams will open the Pay per Head 2011 Preseason.  Players released a video this week thanking fans for their patience throughout the lockout process.

The fans, the players, and the NFL are happy that the compromise has been reached, and now the world can enjoy football again.
