NFL- Peyton Manning

The start of the Indianapolis Colts training camp is scheduled for July 31, and starting quarterback Peyton Manning won’t be ready to participate with the rest of his teammates due to an offseason neck surgery.

It is still unknown how much time of the training camp Manning will be missing. However, once the NFL lockout ends, the 35-year-old quarterback first has to meet with the Colts' medical staff in order to get a more specific recovery timetable.

The four-time NFL MVP, Manning, is rehabbing from his second neck surgery in the past 15 months. The quarterback also had a neck surgery last off-season, but that procedure took place in March and he was ready for the start of the 2010 training camp.

This offseason, Manning's recovery has been slowed because of NFL lockout rules restricting players from receiving medical attention from their team.

In addition, Manning pursued all possible non-surgical remedies during the off-season, but ultimately he had no choice but to have surgery in late May.  The two procedures were not related, the quarterback has said.

On the other hand, as we are impatiently waiting for players and owners to ratify a new collective bargaining agreement and end the four-month lockout, Manning's agent, Tom Condon, sounded optimistic about working out a new deal for Manning with Indianapolis.

In last February, the Colts placed a franchise tag on Manning after completing a seven-year, $98 million deal with the team. However, both sides remain interested in working out a long-term contract that could exceed Tom Brady's contract extension with the New England Patriots.
In the 2010 season, Peyton threw for 4,700 yards, the 11th highest total in NFL history. He also threw 33 TD's accompanied by 16 interceptions.

Finally, the NFL lockout, which has been creating some anxiety among bettors and sports bookmakers, could end very soon as the NFL Players Association gave DeMaurice Smith and the executive committee a "vote of confidence" to finish the remaining deal points in the proposed collective bargaining agreement.
