The 2011 US Open, formally the United States Open Tennis Championships, will be held on August 29, 2011 at the National Tennis Center in Corona, New York. This tournament has become famous through the years and many of the best tennis players dream of winning the U.S. Open title.
For his part, the World No. 1 ranked Novak Djokovic remains as the favorite to win his first title in the U.S Open, as he has improved his record to 47-1 this year, as well as four Masters 1000. With his last win at Wimbledon, the Serbian became the new No.1 in the ATP rankings, and the expectations for Djokovic on this U.S. Open are huge.
Another favorite is the defending champion Rafael Nadal. The world No.2 has been having a great year, winning the Roland Garros title, the Monte Carlo Masters and the Barcelona Masters. In addition, Nadal reached the Wimbledon final and four other Masters finals. Therefore, the Spanish player also has a big chance in this Grand Slam, and there is no doubt that he will be fighting tooth and nail to defend his championship title.
On the other hand, the Swiss Roger Federer is also considered as a favorite, even though he is not having a great season this year. However, we must not forget that the world No.3 has won five U.S. Open titles, and this is why he is another favorite to win his sixth U.S Open and more. Nevertheless, this will be a challenge for Federer and a way to gain confidence on his game.
Finally, Andy Murray, Bernard Tonic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are the other three players with high possibilities to win the US Open title. Andy Murray, ranked No. 4 in the world, is having a good year, qualifying to the semifinals at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, Monte Carlo and Rome, as well as having reached the Australian Open final, where he lost against the Serbian Novak Djokovic.
Tonic, for his part, has been the ATP revelation player, as he reached the third round in the Australian Open and the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, where he lost against Djokovic. Finally, the French Tsonga beat Roger Federer in the Wimbledon quarterfinals but lost the semifinals against the Serbian.
As you can see, no one could refute or have the answer of the champion for this 2011 US Open, but one thing is for sure, it will be a great tournament like every year. Djokovic has been a better player than Nadal so far this season, but could the Majorcan retain his title in New York? Furthermore, will this be Federer's sixth US Open title? Or Murray, Tonic or Tsonga, could surprise all the bookmakers?
